Narrabri Activites and Attractions
FISHINGThere are large amounts of fishing to take part in within the Narrabri area with the Namoi River meandering through the town. Fishing Maps are available from the Tourist Information Centre and Equipment can be bought from Tascott’s Service Station opposite the Information Centre on the Newell Highway.
GUIDED TOURS
Cotton Tours are available however are restricted to the picking season which is approximately between April and May. All details of these tours are available at the Tourist Information Centre on the Newell Hwy Narrabri. Winery Tours are also available and can be organised by the Information Centre.
WALKING
A map is available from the Tourist information Centre outlining the walking paths along the Namoi River Also through town where you can experience the original architecture of the town of Narrabri.
GOLF
There is an eighteen hole Golf Corse in Gibbons Street with a clubhouse that offers meals in the evenings.
SKATEBOARDING
There is a skate board ramp behind the public toilets on the Newell Highway in Narrabri.
SWIMMING
The town pool is located in Tibereena St and has a fairly flexible timetable over all months of the year.
WATERSKING
This is available at Yarrie Lake, however before venturing that way check with the Information Centre that boats can be launched
MARKETS
These occur once a month along the river bank. Full of various stalls with food, gifts, animals and much more. Great atmosphere for the whole family.

Featuring large culture ponds teeming with freshwater fish it is all holiday makers dream that fishing is permitted. |
| Mt Kaputar National Park | Following Maitland St East for 3km before turning left onto Mt Kaputar Rd. | Mt Kaputar National Park has been described as an Ecological Island referring to the abundance of plants and animals that reside with the protection of the park. There are many spectacular land formations in the park with bushwalking tracks throughout. There are also camping areas with amenities and electric BBQ areas. |
| Sawn Rock | Situated on the Bingara Rd off the Newell Highway north of Narrabri | This basalt rock formation which stands 40 metres high is a fascinating insight into the volcanic past of this region. There is a viewing platform to allow a clear view of this uniquely chiselled rock formation. |
| Waa Gorge | Slightly hidden the journey to this Gorge begins on the Terry Hie Hie Rd. 28kms there is a Waa Gorge sign. From here on there are several gates which must be left how they were found. From the car park the walk is not sign posted from the car park there is a fifteen minutes walkthrough the picnic area to Mii Bullah Waterholes from there climbing the small hill to the left of the water holes and following the creek to the gorge. Walk is approx. three quarters of an hour. | The gorge has 100 metre high tangerine streaked walls and a jumble of boulders strewn across the floor of the gorge giving the impression of a giant’s playroom. There is an abundance of fernery and wildlife in this secluded location. Definitely worth the effort for the serenity of this hidden piece of paradise. |
| Bohena Olive Grove | 9kms west of Narrabri on Yarrie Lake Rd | Bohena Olive Grove will give tours by appointment on 6792 3656. The Gale family proudly grows 1000 trees of different varieties on the unique sandy soil found near Bohena Crk and produce their own Extra Virgin Olive Oil. |
| CSIRO Australian Telescope | 23km west of Narrabri on the Yarrie Lake Rd. | CSIRO’s Australian Telescope Compact Array is the most advanced radio telescope in the southern hemisphere. There is an information centre and interactive exhibits explain how the dishes are used not only by Australian astronomers but also NASA. There are amenities BBQ areas and a unique opportunity to get quite close to these enormous dishes. |
| Yarrie Lake | 31km West on the Yarrie Lake Rd | Yarrie Lake is believed to be uniquely formed from a meteor that fell to earth thousands of years ago from its distinct perfectly round shape. This a beautiful reserve for fishing, camping, skiing and much more with amenities BBQ areas. |

Also within the centre is a cotton gift shop with clothes, oils soaps and much more. There is also the opportunity to sit at the controls of “Big Red” a life size cotton picker. |
| Narrabri Gaol & Museum | Maitland Street Narrabri | The Old Gaol has many items from its use over its one hundred life from 1882. There are displays throughout the Gaol itself to give the viewer an idea of what life was really like at those times within those walls. |
| Antiques, Arts and Crafts | Newell Hwy Narrabri | This converted house has become a gallery for exquisite antiques and paintings and is also host to many passing art exhibitions. Well worth a visit as there is always something for everyone. |
